“Language and Education: Strategi Efektif Keterampilan Berbicara Tema Global melalui Media Wayang”

Speaking skills are a core component of language proficiency and essential for students to engage meaningfully with global themes. This study explores the effectiveness of integrating traditional wayang media into language education to enhance speaking skills among elementary school students in Jember, Indonesia. Employing a qualitative research design, data were gathered through in-depth interviews with 15 elementary school teachers selected via snowball sampling. The findings reveal that sustained speaking practice, peer interaction, and guided instruction significantly contribute to students’ verbal competence. Moreover, the use of wayang fosters cultural engagement, increases student motivation, and supports expressive communication in both local and global contexts. This study underscores the pedagogical value of incorporating indigenous media into language instruction and offers practical insights for developing culturally responsive teaching strategies. Further research is recommended to evaluate the adaptability of wayang-based instruction across diverse educational and cultural settings.
